Werner Herzog spelunks in this beautifully shot documentary. I enjoyed this documentary very much, but its dry, academic tone drove my family from the room. There were a couple of clunky, overwrought moments; but you can't blame someone getting a once in a lifetime chance of filming nearly inaccessible 30,000 year old cave paintings for becoming a little maudlin. Contains several long shots of the paintings cast in an realistic campfire-like light near the end of the film. The avant-garde classical score adds a level of tension throughout.
